The Trans Bhutan Trail stretches 403 km from Haa in western Bhutan to Trashigang in the east and is regarded as one of Asia’s finest long-distance hikes. Dating to the 16th century, it linked fortress-monasteries known as Dzong and served as a pilgrimage route. Legendary runners called Garps carried messages and mail between dzongs, helping unite provinces and shaping Bhutan’s nationhood in 1907.
